So a hotel might, for example, only allow a third party to sell X amount of rooms and then display as sold out. Also, sometimes Hotels choose to "stop-selling" our rooms on third party sites for particular dates. So although it may show as sold out on a third party site you may find that the Hotels website still shows availability which can be booked either online or by telephone.
